New-
A- OUTSTANDING PUCE PATTERN MOLDED VASE; PHILADEPHIA OR MARYLAND-
7" Medium to dark strawberry puce, non-lead bottle glass, trumpet shaped body pattern with 10 panels or ribs, applied knop with bell foot, folded under edge, pontil scar; Philadelphia or Baltimore, possibly New Bremen, Frederick co. maryland, c.1795-1820, mint condition. First of all, this exotic color is seldom found in tableware, most often found in the United States, especially the Baltimore Philadelphia area. The striking bell foot dates the piece from the last quarter of the eighteenth century to about 1820. Sweet meats and tazas attributed to New Bremen have an identical foot, and puce shards have been excavated. The formula was probably handed down to the early Baltimore Glass works, which explains why the color was used so frequently for everything from medicines to Flasks. The pattern molding reminds me of the New England paneled vases; the piece is very early, beautiful and very interesting; possibly used as a fly ball stand, extremely rare, probably unique; ex. Bournes auction, ex. Philip Cortina collection.Price On Request- If you are interested in Purchasing, or making an offer, please email

11-MACLYN ARBUCKLE-
Click on image for large photo
A notable vaudeville performer and musical comedy character star (The County Chairman), Maclyn Arbuckle came to films on the heels of his brother Andrew and famous cousin, star comic Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle. Reprising The County Chairman for the cameras in 1914, Arbuckle only occasionally turned to films until 1922, when he founded San Antonio Pictures to produce rural comedies.Arbuckle later played Squire Meredith in Marion Davies' lavish Revolutionary War epic Janice Meredith (1924), with Mrs. Arbuckle as Martha Washington, and starred in the sentimental melodrama That Old Gang of Mine. The Arbuckle family resemblance remained strong; at the time of Janice Meredith, Maclyn Arbuckle clocked in at a hefty 350 pounds.
In 1920, Roscoe "Fatty" Arbuckle made a screen version of The Round-up, starring in a role originated by Maclyn decades before. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, All Movie Guide

Arbuckle, Maclyn (1863-1931), actor. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he gave up a burgeoning law career to try his hand at acting. After making his debut in 1888 in Shreveport, Louisiana, he spent several seasons touring before making his New York bow in 1900, calling attention to himself the next year as the Earl of Rockingham in Under Two Flags. Arbuckle portrayed Antonio in The Merchant of Venice (1901) but found his true métier as the folksy, wise George Washington Skipper in Skipper and Co., Wall Street (1903). His most memorable role was Jim Hackler in The County Chairman, a part that kept him busy for the next four seasons. Thereafter he met with varying degrees of success depicting similar homespun characters in The Round Up (1907), The Circus Man (1909), and The New Henrietta (1915). In 1919 he headed a road company of The Better'Ole, and, before retiring, the pudgy, friendly miened actor participated in two all-star revivals mounted by The Players, playing Anthony Absolute in The Rivals (1923) and Stingo in She Stoops To Conquer (1924).
Maclyn Arbuckle a pioneer of early 20th stage and film. A character, humorist, a giant of a man. What the world did not know is that the man was a gifted artist, illustrator, cartoonist with a deep social and political point of view. We are proud to present the collection of Maclay Arbuckle's, original pen and inks, cartoons, portraits, political cartoons, letters, photos, head shots, original movie broadside and his personal diary.
Most notable is a political cartoon depicting Theodore Roosevelt as King Turkey, and a commentary on his Big Stick policy, with new born chicks perched upon Roosevelt's "Big Stick" representing extravagance, postal scandal, foreign complication, imperialism, hatched from "peace", "trust regulator", "anti imperialism" and "simple life." A single chick upon his back representing "illegal trust."
Another important and prophetic political cartoon is pointed at the Russo-Japanese war depicting a Russian officer fleeing with a winged Japanese soldier flying in the air with a basket of torpedoes thathe is individually dropping on the enemy. The war was a short conflict fought between1904-1905, both countries had there eye on expansion especially in china and other Asian countries like Korea. Maclyn drew this in 1904 a year after the Wright brothers made history.Price On Request- If you are interested in Purchasing, or making an offer, please email

19- RARE FOLK ART,"GAZETT-EXTRA, PHILADA 1846" SATIRICAL WORK; "CORN FOR THE WORLD."
Description:
Double-sided manuscript modeled after newspaper and titled "Gazette-Extra Philada 4th mo 11th 1846." Sheet offers satirical news with 7 hand colored pen and ink drawings. Sheet measures 15.5" x 10" and exhibits fold splitting and edge chipping with some text involvement.
Click on image for large photoThis is wonderful artistic work. The author uses both irony and wit to expose political folly and vice of the day. Dealing with world news, current affairs. The "Corn for the World" motto is portrayed "Important if true" The repeel' of the corn laws rat-i-fied-depicting a storage shed of corn over run by Rats. The author also makes reference to "Cape May" and the "Hydrachos." His sketch depicts the "Hydachos" as a long sea serpent in a
race from Europe to America, with rider on back. This could be the work of author Augustus Ely Silliman, ake. "Pequot." Pequot is the pseudonym under which literary sketches and articles, clearly by the same writer, were submitted to New York newspapers and magazines in the 1840's. In 1843 he wrote "gallop among American scenery". Nov 1 1843 "Spiritiana -no.1 Hydrachos" unsigned, no by lines, latter appearing in a revised addition, c.1881 of "gallop among American scenery."
